Works perfectly
The game worked perfectly without having to do anything extra. I played through the entire game without any issues at all.
Works well
Sometimes the outlines for objects in the background appear through characters.
Besides some occasional graphical bugs where outlines for objects in the background appear through characters, the game runs and looks fine. No big issues at all.
Worked Perfectly
No issues at all to report. The game worked perfectly without any extra steps.
Works as Intended
What can I say, Half Life is a great game and now it can be enjoyed on Linux! Works without any issues.
Works Perfectly
It's a great game and works perfectly for me on Xubuntu 24.04
The game would crash upon switching levels until I disabled "Multi Thread Rendering" in the settings.
The game wouldn't start until I switched to Proton 5.0-10. Crashing would occur at level changes but disabling "Multi Thread Rendering" in the settings fixed that. Worked fine after that.
The game would crash sometimes during map changes. Disabling Multi Thread Rendering in the game settings fixed this.
Otherwise the game works well.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b;msvcp71=n;msvcr71=n" gamemoderun %command%
I needed to add launch options to get it to work, otherwise it would crash upon startup. Other than that, the game worked fine. No glitches or isses besides the ones that come with the game.
I got slightly better performance by using Proton experimental. Otherwise the game worked flawlessly from start to finish.
Disabled PhysX in the game settings.
With PhysX enabled, the game would slow down to 2 FPS wherever there was a lot of glass breaking. Disabling PhysX fixed this.
Otherwise, the game ran without issues.
The game worked well with just a slightly low framerate.
low framerates, reduced graphics settings
The game worked well with just a slightly low framerate. I had to reduce the graphics settings. I'm sure I could have tinkered more to get it working better but I had the game almost complete already so I just finished it like that.
The game will run the main menu but that's it
changes to user.ltx file in game directory
Similar to the other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, this one won't work for me using Steam on linux. It gives me an error saying "your graphics card doesn't meet the game requirements". It will however work by launching it with the windows version of Steam using Lutris.
Works with Lutris but not Proton
PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command%
Was unable to launch the game on Ubuntu 22.04.4,Tried all versions of proton including Glorious Eggroll. Tried all launch options that I found other people using. Tried modifying settings in user.ltx in game directory. Gives various errors: "Failed to initialize graphics hardware..." "Your video card doesn't meet game requirements. Pixel shader v1.1 or higher required" " A crash has been detected by BugTrap..."
Finally I was able to launch the game by installing the Windows version of Steam using Lutris then installing and launching the game through there.
The main menu would crash. Enabling "Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting DirectX 10" in the graphics settings menu fixed that.
I can play reliably using Lutris, however the game launches in a small screen with restricted mouse movements. I work around this by changing parameters in the user.ltx file to: rs_fullscreen off and vid_mode 864x486 each time before launching the game. I can then change the settings back once it is running.
Half Life 2 needs to be installed and set to Legacy in the preferances > beta page. Once that it set, the game works fine.
Disabled all visual enhancement options
Very low framerate in the beginning of the game
The game ran at a very low framerate. This got slightly better in the final level. The worst level was the house courtyard that ran at around 3 FPS. I had played the game before on Windows without any issues.
